Two Blind Men, One Rich and One Poor

Scripture Reading: Luke 18:(18-23) +(35-43).

Some Key Verses:

18:18  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

18:22  Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

18:23  And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

18:35  And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

18:38  And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

18:42  And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

18:43  And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

Two Blind Men, One Rich and One Poor!

We must receive the kingdom of God as a child. The rich young ruler made a bad executive choice and a bad financial choice. He chose great earthly riches which he was only steward of for a limited time over companionship and ministry with Jesus and to be in heaven forever with everlasting treasures. His riches caused him grief. To be totally committed to Jesus not only gives us eternal rewards, but we are also better off here on this earth! We need God’s help in order to enter into the kingdom of heaven, and we must not allow riches to keep us out of heaven. Love of riches can keep us out of heaven. Jesus hears the voice of the blind ones and heals them. The rich young ruler didn’t follow Jesus, but the formerly blind man did. The rich young ruler could have been a formerly rich man who followed Jesus. He also could have been a formerly blind man who followed Jesus, because he was blinded by riches.

Accept People as God Changed and Do Work Well.

Scripture Reading: Luke 15:22-32

Some Pertinent Verses:
15:23  And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let
us eat, and be merry:
15:24   For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he
was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

The prodigal son had changed, and his father treated
him as a new young man. We need to treat people
according to what God has renewed them to be, not as
the old sinful person of the past. It is good to “go the
extra mile” to bring reconciliation. We are to treat others
well. That brings rewards! We are to do our work well
which will also bring rewards!

Obey to be in Jesus' Family

Jesus said that whosoever does the will of God is in His family. (Mark 3:35). Jesus said that whoever does the will of God is His brother, sister and mother. We are to be obedient to God to remain in Jesus’ family. Jesus taught a crowd at the seashore while He was in a boat. He taught about the sower and the soils. (Mark 4:3-20). We are to listen to the word of God, to receive Jesus’ teachings, to develop a deep spiritual life with full devotion to God, to avoid being led off course by cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches or the lust of other things. We are to produce much fruit.

Are we Pharisees?

Are we in danger of making the Word of God of none effect like the Pharisees did?

“And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, if a man shall say to his father or mother, it is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such things do ye.” (Mark 7:9-13)

Are we developing a set of doctrines in our churches that make the Word of God of none effect? Should we do better at making sure that our doctrines are Biblically based rather than a reflection of the opinions of those gathered together for decision making?

There is no excuse for sin

Is there an excuse for sin? I submit to you that I believe there is no excuse for sin. The definition I am using for sin is the Biblical definition as stated in 1 John 3:4, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Also, in James 4:17 it says, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Sin is clearly a choice we make, and we are responsible for choices we make.  1 John 2:1 says, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.”  I thank God that there is a remedy for sin!  “And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous…”  (1 John 2:1b), and “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
